Adrian Pierce Clark
March 7, 1930 – January 1, 2021

Adrian Pierce Clark, 90, formerly of Cairo, GA but recently residing in Dothan, AL, with his youngest daughter and family passed away at their home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, January 1, 2021.  A private graveside service for family is planned for January 16th 2021 in Cairo GA.

Adrian was born on March 7, 1930 in Grady County to the late K. C. and Lagrue Clark. He was raised on the family farm that still exists today on Richter Rd, North of Cairo where they raised livestock, grew watermelons and made cane syrup, that they hauled to town by horse and buggy to sell. Immediately after High School he served his country in the United States Army. Upon his return from the Service he worked at Colonial Stores and met Elaine, the woman he would marry. He purchased and ran the Clarks Food Market for many years, where he knew all of his patrons. Adrian continued his work career with the United States Post Office for 14 years while farming and then later as a realtor.  For his entire life, his passion was farming and raising livestock. There were few things that he did not grow at some point from cotton, tobacco, okra and squash for market. He row cropped corn, peanuts, soybeans and oats; bailed acres and acres of hay, but his passion was for Polled Hereford Cows. In his late 70’s he still had over 300 head of registered seed cattle and loved to ride the herd and look at the babies.  Years later as his health began to decline, he turned to growing fruit trees and loved handing out Satsumas every year.

Adrian was a strong man of principal and believed in helping others.  This led him to run for office and serve the City of Cairo as Mayor from 1970 to 1984 and later as a Councilman.  He loved the town that he grew up in and wanted the best for the community and its people.   As Mayor, he held court every Monday for minor speeding tickets to DUI and other charges and took this responsibility very serious.

Adrian and Elaine had three girls that kept them busy with basketball, softball, horses, etc… He wanted to make sure that his girls grew up to be independent and that they all received a college education. His girls were his pride and joy. He was blessed to be able to walk them down the aisle and give their hand to good men.  Adrian felt particularly blessed by his three son-in-laws.  Lynn gave him his first grandchild, Sarah; then the son he had always wanted, Pierce and last but not least, Rachael.  These grandchildren brought him much joy and pleasure.   Lori would have his last grandchild, Megann whom shares his love for farming and animals and will graduate high school this year.  He was very proud of his entire family and though he worked hard and rarely took a vacation, he made time for church and raised his family in the Cairo Presbyterian Church.  He served as a Deacon, elder and Treasurer for many years.

Survivors include: his daughters, Lori Clark Wilcoxon (Ken) Dothan, AL; Lynn Clark Lovett (Jim) Tifton, GA; and Beth Clark McCann (Mick) Bend, OR.  His grandchildren: Sarah Lovett, Atlanta, GA, Pierce Lovett, Evans, GA, Rachael Lovett, Atlanta, GA and Megann Wilcoxon, Dothan, AL; a brother, Alfonso (Bud) Clark, Cairo, GA, sisters, Marilyn Clark Simpson, Eastman GA and Opal Vickers Prince, Cairo, GA.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 66 years, Elaine Sadler Clark, his parents, his brother, K. C. “Sonny” Clark, and a sister, Ethel Clark Watkins.

His civic involvement included: Director of the Rotary Club of Cairo; Director of the Grady County Chamber of Commerce; Director for the Flint River Soil Conservation District; a member of the Boy Scouts of Grady County Council; and the Grady County Chamber of Commerce Fat Cattle and Barron Shows Committee; Cairo City Councilman; and Mayor of Cairo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Cairo Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 207, Cairo, GA 39828.
