Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Gordon Ponder, III, 75, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Services will conclude in the chapel. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Ponder passed away at his home on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Mr. Ponder was born on January 18, 1951, in Whigham, GA, to the late Joseph Gordon Ponder, Jr. and Mattie Lou Boutwell Ponder. On July 23, 1971, he married Cleo Dozier Ponder. They have been married for 55 years. He was a dedicated farmer.

Survivors include: his wife, Cleo Ponder of Cairo, GA; daughter, Sharron Dollar (Joey) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Tara Dollar, Kaitlyn Dollar, both of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Charles Ponder of Cairo, GA; sisters, Faye Dozier (Leo) of Jesup, GA, Mattielu Adams (Roy) of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his brothers, Abner Ponder, Daniel Ponder, Paul Ponder, Benson Ponder.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Ponder’s memory to: Christ Church Cairo, P. O. Box 120, Cairo, GA 39828; or the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home immediately following the service.
