Joseph “Joe” Gordon Ponder, III

Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Gordon Ponder, III, 75, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate, private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Ponder passed away at his home on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Pallbearers will be: Darren Ponder, Robin Dozier, Payton Ponder, JW Hawthorne, Joey Dollar and Walter Maxwell.

Mr. Ponder was born on January 18, 1951, in Whigham, GA, to the late Joseph Gordon Ponder, Jr. and Mattie Lou Boutwell Ponder. On July 23, 1971, he married Cleo Dozier Ponder. Joe was a dedicated and life-long farmer in Grady County.

Survivors include Cleo Ponder of Cairo, GA; his daughter, Sharron Dollar (Joey) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Tara Dollar, Kaitlyn Dollar, both of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Charles Ponder of Cairo, GA; sisters, Faye Dozier (Leo) of Jesup, GA, Mattielu Adams (Roy) of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Abner Ponder, Daniel Ponder, Paul Ponder, Benson Ponder and William Ponder.

A special Thank You is extended to Dr. Ron McCaskill for his support and encouragement throughout the past several months. Also, to Georgia Hospice Care Nurses, CNA, chaplain and staff, for their comfort, knowledge and support.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home immediately following the service.
