John Edward “Trouble” Gainous
November 21, 1950 – July 30, 2026
A celebration of life service for John Edward Gainous, 75, of Cairo, GA, is at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Magnolia Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Whigham, GA. Rev. Jimmy Ausburn will speak. Mr. Gainous passed away at home on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Mr. Gainous was born on November 21, 1950, to his loving mother Virginia Gilbertson and raised by his loving parents, Bill Gainous and Grace Gainous. On November 23, 1968, he married the love of his life, Ethel Hawthorn Gainous where they then enjoyed 57 years of marriage. He was a life-long farmer and later worked for the City of Cairo until his retirement. John worked tirelessly to give his family a beautiful life. He was proud of his children, and he loved his wife with all his heart.
Survivors include: his wife, Ethel Gainous of Cairo, GA; sons, Bill Gainous (Ryan) of Stone Mountain, GA, Sam Gainous of Cairo, GA; mother, Virginia Gilbertson of Grants Pass, OR; sisters, Janet Mills of Tallahassee, FL, Shelly King-Schuur (John) of Grants Pass, OR; special nieces, Myra Hawthorne Akridge of Cairo, GA, Tyler Gray of Mount Vernon, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Singletary of Grovetown, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Bill and Grace Gainous; stepfather, Harold Gilbertson; brothers, Leslie Harrison, Tom King; and his aunt and uncle, Bob and Peggy Gandy.
As a devoted member of Magnolia Baptist Church, John felt at home within is church community. Memorials may be made in Mr. Gainous’ memory to: Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 377, Whigham, GA 39897.
The family will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall immediately following the memorial service.
