Jerrie Hatfield Burgess
October 27, 1943 – August 10, 2025

Jerrie Hatfield Burgess, 81, of Cairo, Georgia, stepped into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 8:30 p.m., after a life well-lived and a faith well-kept.
Born on October 27, 1943, in Richmond, Georgia, to Floyd and Ceatrice Gillispie Hatfield, Jerrie was one of several siblings and is now reunited in Heaven with all of them. On August 18, 1962, she married the love of her life, Robert Earl Burgess. To her, he was always “Lover Boy,” and to him, she was “Babydoll” or “Honey.” They were just days away from celebrating 63 years of marriage—a love story filled with laughter, playful teasing, and a devotion that endured through every season of life.
Jerrie was known for her sassy wit, contagious laughter, and quick comebacks. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome—whether with a warm hug, a playful remark, or a plate of her good Southern cooking. Even in the face of great trials, she walked through life with an unshakable faith, a smile on her face, and joy in her heart.
She served her Jesus wholeheartedly, both in the church and in her everyday life. She worked in manufacturing and kept homes spotless, but her true life’s work was loving people well. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert Earl Burgess of Cairo, Georgia; her children, Diane Burgess Wint (Eddie) of Crawfordville, Florida, and Jeff Burgess (Cindy) of Cairo, Georgia; her grandchildren Brandon McDonald (Alyssa) of Tallahassee, Florida, Amber Stanaland (Tanner) of Thomasville, Georgia, and Skylar Burgess of Cairo, Georgia; and her great-grandchildren Elias, Ezra, Elliana, and Ensley McDonald of Tallahassee, Florida, and Harper and Myles Stanaland of Thomasville, Georgia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ceatrice Hatfield, and her brothers and a sister, Robert Henry Hatfield, Frank Hatfield, J. C. Hatfield, Billy Henery Hatfield, Bobby Joe Hatfield and Margaret Hatfield.
Those who knew Jerrie will remember her laughter ringing through the room, her unshakable hope in the Lord, and the way she never missed a chance to make life a little brighter for those around her. She fought the good fight, finished her race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local church or a charity close to your heart, in honor of Jerrie’s legacy of faith and love.
