Funeral services for Francis M. Davenport, 89, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Stan Godwin and Michael Best will officiate. Military Honors will be presented in the chapel. Services will conclude in the chapel. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Davenport passed away at his daughter’s home in Cairo, GA, on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Mr. Davenport was born on January 28, 1937, in Farmville, NC, to the late Heber Randall Davenport and Hattie May Wells Davenport. On June 7, 1959, he married Mavis “Patsy” Houston Davenport, who preceded him in death on April 30, 2013. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt). During his distinguished military career, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he continued his career with the State of Georgia, where he worked as a meat inspector. He was a member of Capel Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include: daughter, Tamila Kay Best (Michael) of Cairo, GA; son, Michael Scott Davenport (Sarah) of Dublin, GA, Ashley B. Moore of Lincoln University, PA, Trey Best of Moultrie, GA; grandchildren, Trevor Patten of Silverdale, WA, Payne Davenport of Dublin, GA, Palmer Davenport of Brunswick, GA, Tucker Patten of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Ava Moore, Joey Moore, both of Lincoln University, PA; sisters, Diane D. Robinson of Mt. Olive, NC, Sue Darlene D. Hudson of Knightdale, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Patsy Davenport; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Davenport’s memory to: Capel Baptist Church, 1041 Capel Road, Cairo, GA 39828.
