Robert Kenneth Armstrong
August 30, 1941 – April 5, 2026

Robert Kenneth Armstrong, 84, of Thomasville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Archibold Living Center in Cairo, Georgia.
Born on August 30, 1941, in Dothan, Alabama, Kenneth was the son of the late Robert P. Armstrong and Barbara Mills Armstrong. He grew up in Donalsonville, Georgia, where he graduated from Seminole County High School in 1959 and earned the distinction of Eagle Scout.
Kenneth went on to attend Auburn University, graduating in 1965 with a degree in entomology, and later continued his studies at Clemson University. He built a life marked by service, both to his country and his community. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Kenneth retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished career that included service during the Vietnam War.
On March 31, 1985, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Oates Armstrong. Together they shared 41 happy years of marriage.
Kenneth was a longtime member of the VFW in both Quitman, GA and Donalsonville, GA, as well as the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, reading every magazine he could get his hands on, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. He was also known for his sharp wit and his particular talent for keeping spam callers on the line far longer than they ever intended.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Oates Armstrong of Thomasville, Georgia; his children, Djuana Rinehart, Adam (Patti) Armstrong, Traci (Terry) Evans, Klay Armstrong, Jony (Katie) Pickren, and Michael (Sharon) Hall, Amanda Hall; his grandchildren, Rachael Wright, Caroline Hooks, Adelaide Rinehart, Elizabeth Rinehart, Hank Evans, Beau Evans, and Christopher Armstrong; and his great-grandchildren, Stella, Maggie and Mason Wright, and Lucas Jarvis, as well as his fur-baby Missy the cat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Angie Suggs.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 157, 5803 GA-39, Donalsonville, Georgia 39845, or the VFW Post 5659, 9995 Greenville HWY, Quitman, Georgia 31643.
