Rev. Paul Day, Sr.
January 21, 1935 – March 9, 2023

Rev. Paul Day, Sr., age 88, of Hahira, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 21, 1935 in Madison County, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Finley Day and Vera Pauline Woodard Day, his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn Lucile Pharis Day, and brother Richard Franklin Day, and sister Mary Louise Reams Horne.

Rev. Day, Sr. was able to meet and make many lifelong friends through his involvement in Christian Ministry. He served as pastor of multiple Southern Baptist churches during his lifetime. He then served as an Associational Area Missionary for the Georgia Baptist Convention, and was named the “Missionary of the Year” among Georgia Baptists in 2005.

Rev. Day was a graduate of Mercer University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he was blessed by God to fulfill his call in ministry. God used Rev. Day, Sr. to influence and make an impact on the lives of countless people throughout Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky.

Rev. Day, Sr. was known as an avid reader of the Bible and other Christian books, and he became a trusted theologian with guidance by the Spirit of God. In his time away from his ministerial duties, his hobbies included quail hunting, fishing on the Suwannee River and the Gulf of Mexico. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially as he would always say … “Enjoying a good meal together.”

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Mitchell and husband Mitch of Steinhatchee, Florida; son, Paul Day, Jr. and wife Lisa of Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren: Trey (Kristin) Mitchell, Todd (Megan) Mitchell, Marisa Day, Tanner Day; great grandchildren: Tripp Mitchell, Katelyn Mitchell, Tori Mitchell, Kami Mitchell, Brody Hurst, Tristin Mitchell, Kroy Mitchell; great-great grandchild: Esther Kate Mitchell; sister, Irma Day James and husband Wiley of Boone, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Danice Day of Maiden, North Carolina; nieces: Cheresa Day Cashion of Lincolnton, North Carolina, Jeanette Horne Runyon and husband Don of Lake City, Florida; nephews: Richard Day of Charlotte, North Carolina, Brent James and wife Catherine of Boone, North Carolina; Paul also had a host of loving in-laws, family friends and ministry colleagues.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all those who have reached out to offer their presence and prayers. It generates joy in our hearts to witness the Church of Jesus Christ as it pours out care, concern, love, and prayers.

Funeral Services for Rev. Paul Day, Sr., will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Valdosta, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. First Baptist Church, Valdosta will be doing a live stream of the service from their website.

Interment will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, Grady County, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary contributions be made to the Paul and Lucile Day Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be sent to the Grady County Baptist Association located at 227 GA Hwy 112 North, Cairo, Georgia 39827.
