Ray Ladell Barrett
May 5, 1941 – December 19, 2020

Funeral services for Ray Ladell Barrett, 79, of Cairo, GA, are on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate.  Private interment will be in Pine Level Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mr. Barrett passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Ponder, Kenneth Ponder, Dylan Treuden, Lee Ponder, Devin Nix and Riley Anderson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ray’s Sunday School Class members.

Mr. Barrett was born on May 5, 1941, in Cairo, GA, to the late Emory Barrett and Imogene Miller Barrett.  Ray graduated Cairo High School in 1959 and joined the United States Air Force to serve from 1961-1965.  During the 1970’s and 1980’s, he was a maintenance supervisor for Pan Am at numerous satellite tracing stations including Antigua and the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.  While working in the Seychelles, he traveled extensively in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Mozambique.  He also farmed for several years and worked as an electrician and air condition specialist.  Ray married Joyce Harrell Barrett on June 23, 1996.  He was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Pine Level Baptist Church.  After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, working with his hands, and enjoying his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Barrett of Cairo, GA; sons, Glenn Ponder (Christie) of Whigham, GA, Ken Ponder (Paula) of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, Dylan Treuden (Olivia) of Cairo, GA, Hanna Nix (Devin) of Cairo, GA, Lee Ponder of Cairo, GA, Cailyn Anderson (Riley) of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Whitley Nix, MaKenna Nix, Rawlins Nix, all of Cairo, GA, Adalyn Anderson of Whigham, GA; siblings, Jerry Barrett of Atlanta, GA, Kay Whitfield (Don) of Tifton, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: parents; sister, Karen Harrison; and a brother, Eldon Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Barrett’s memory to: Pine Level Baptist Church Building Fund, 298 Pine Level Road, Cairo, GA  39827.
