Tommy William Lackey
March 30, 1939 – November 13, 2023

Funeral services for Tommy William Lackey, 84, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, at Eastside Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Bob Knight and Rev. Matt Vickers will officiate.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mr. Lackey passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Lackey, Michael Holmes, Nicholas Holmes, Wesley McCall, Adam Johnson and Chris Holmes.

Mr. Lackey was born on March 30, 1939, in Omega, GA, to the late Fred Luster Lackey and Ethel Leona Ethridge Lackey.  He served his country in the United States Army.  On December 11, 1960, he married Delores Luvania Harrell Lackey, who survives.  They were married for almost 63 years.  He retired as a police officer with the Tallahassee Police Department.  Tommy and Luvania moved from Tallahassee to Cairo to begin a new life in retirement.  Tommy was best known for his syrup making abilities and bottling of cane syrup each fall season.  He was a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Luvania Lackey of Cairo, GA; children, Andy Lackey (Donna) of Crawfordville, FL, Lisa Holmes (Christopher) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Tyler Lackey (Katie) of Tallahassee, FL, Chelsea Johnson (Adam) of Midland City, AL, Michael Holmes (Alicia) of Tallahassee, FL, Nicholas Holmes (Emily) of Orlando, FL, Charis Holmes McCall (Wesley) of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren, Rawlings Holmes of Tallahassee, FL, Layla Holmes of Tallahassee, FL, Easton Johnson of Midland City, AL, Harlow Ann Johnson of Midland City, AL, Peyton Lackey of Tallahassee, FL, Jaxon Lackey of Tallahassee, FL, Luke Holmes of Orlando, FL; sisters-in-law, Christine Lackey of Tallahassee, FL, Wynell Mitchell of Cairo, GA, Gail Greene of Thomasville, GA; brother-in-law, Jack Gay of Hartsfield, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Mary Lee Lackey, Tot Lackey, Ruby Gay, Fred Lackey, Jr., Kathryn Baker, Betty Jay; and brothers-in-law, Pete Jay, Donald Baker, Preston Mitchell, Larry Harrell, Stanley Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Janis Thompson.

The family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
