Thomas Robert “Tom” Maxwell
December 14, 1930 – December 8, 2020

Graveside funeral services for Thomas Robert “Tom” Maxwell, 89, of Cairo, GA, are on Friday, December 11, 2020, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Kerry Walsh and Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mr. Maxwell passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Tuesday, December 8, 2020.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Lamar Singletary, Jason Robert Maxwell, Leslie Hudson, Yancy Maxwell, Bobby Mitchell and Dr. Mark Brewer.

Mr. Maxwell was born on December 14, 1930, in Tarpon Springs, FL, to the late Alton Robert Maxwell and Zona Mae Whitfield Maxwell.  He was a graduate of Tarpon Springs High School in 1949.  He served his country in the United States Army.  On March 22, 1959, he married Ellen Lee Maxwell, who survives.  He worked at the Western Auto and delivered the Atlanta Journal and Thomasville Times over the years.    He was owner and operator of Tom Maxwell’s Greenhouse and Landscaping.  In his spare time, Tom helped his wife in her Avon deliveries for 50 years.    He was a member of the American Legion Post #122.  He was a member of Reno Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Survivors include: his wife, Ellen Lee Maxwell of Cairo, GA; children, Robert C. and Benita K. Maxwell of Cairo, GA, Debra M. and Ricky Singletary of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Brandon L. Singletary, Jason R. and Laura C. Maxwell, Hannah L. Maxwell, Heather E. Singletary, all of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Aubrey M. Singletary, Brinley A. Singletary, both of Cairo, GA; brothers, Frank and Wilma Maxwell of Trenton, FL, Jimmy E. and Becky Maxwell of Cary, NC; sister-in-law, Betty Lee of Reno, GA; his special feline friends, Gracie and Pumpkin; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jimmy C. Lee.

The family wishes to extend their love and appreciation for Tom’s special caregivers Kendred At Home Services.
