Sylvia Kay “Sissy” Brinson
July 31, 1947 – May 13, 2024

Memorial services for Sylvia Kay “Sissy” Brinson, 76, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA.  Dr. Bob Knight will officiate.  Mrs. Brinson passed away at her home on Monday, May 13, 2024, with her family by her side.

Mrs. Brinson was born on July 31, 1947, in Cairo, GA, to the late Roscoe Luke Harrison and the late Amy Caroline Daughtry Harrison.  She attended Whigham High School and graduated Senior Superlative with the Class of 1965.  On October 8, 1966, she married Jerry Franklin Brinson, the love of her life.  She loved attending car shows and traveling with Jerry across the country on the back of their motorcycle.  She loved cooking, going antiquing, thrift shopping and gardening.

Sylvia enjoyed spending time with family and friends and through the years planned many gatherings at her home including the famous “Cane Syrup Day” that she loved hosting.  She worked for the Decatur-Grady Head Start program for 34 years and was a member at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church.  “Sissy” will be fondly remembered for her soft spoken, kindhearted nature.  She was always looking out and caring for others even as her final days were near.

Survivors include:  her husband of almost 58 years, Jerry F. Brinson of Whigham, GA; daughter, Angela Brinson Runyan; sons, Michael K. Brinson and Anthony F. Brinson, all of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, Kayla Watson of Coolidge, GA, Zach Watson of Whigham, GA, Gerri Watson of Tallahassee, FL, Erica Brinson Fore (James) of Mississippi, Amy Brinson of Whigham, GA, Cody Brinson of Whigham, GA, William Brinson of Whigham, GA, Riley Runyan of Whigham, GA, Gage Runyan of Whigham, GA; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Barber (Larry) of Valdosta, GA, Debra H Simmons of Salem, AL; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Johnny K. and Brenda Darsey of Calvary, GA, Delita Brinson of Tallahassee, FL; special uncle and aunt, James and Lula Long of Cairo, GA; and her special pets, Peanut and Corkey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Stion Hudson Brinson.
