Steven Hansel Akridge
June 12, 1958 – June 25, 2025

Funeral services for Steven Hansel Akridge, 67, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2025, at the First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jimmy Ausburn, Rev. Harold Burrell, and Rev. Chris Allen will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Akridge passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Akridge, Paul Cromer, Noah Todd, Tanner Todd, Darin Todd, David Todd, and Lawson Womble. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Brown, Bruce Womble, Drew Brock, Tim Allen, Chris Allen, Joey Brock, Walt Byrd, Ray Connell, John Gainous, Lee Harrison, Eddie Rodgers, Robbie Mills, Daniel Connell, Larry Hawthorne, Daryl Boyett and Clyde Davis.

Mr. Akridge was born on June 12, 1958, in Thomasville, GA, to the late A.L. Akridge “Jr.” and Monteen Akridge. On July 15, 1978, Steve married the love of his life, Myra Hawthorne, and he got to share 47 great years with his best friend. He started working at Cash & Carry feeds in 1978, and then in 1995 Steve and Al purchased the business. Steve was one of the founders of Whigham Volunteer Fire Department in 1986 and served for 28 years. Steve was a devoted member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Whigham.

Survivors include: his wife, Myra Akridge of Cairo, GA; brother, Al Akridge (Pam) of Cairo, GA; nieces and nephews, Megan Gordon (Chad) of Whigham, GA, Tyler Akridge (Madison) of Cairo, GA, Natalia Hawthorne of Cairo, GA, Fatima Hawthorne of Panama Canal, Christy Knapp of Pelham, GA; great niece, Olivia Gordon of Whigham, GA; brother-in-law, Larry Hawthorne of Whigham, GA; step-mother, Marcella Akridge; special loved ones, Uncle Jerry and Aunt Lucky Akridge; and a host of great nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his father and mother, Jr. and Monteen Akridge; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Nathelyn Hawthorne; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Nora Hawthorne.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Akridge’s memory to: Lewis Hall Oncology Center in Thomasville, GA.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Cairo, GA on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 1:00 pm. until 2:00 p.m.
