Mr. George was born on August 17, 1942, in Parrott, GA, to the late Samuel Edwin “S.E.” George, Sr. and Olga Johnson George. On June 14, 1970, he married Julia Higdon George. They were about to celebrate 55 years of marriage. He was the owner and operator of GT Metal Works specializing in welding and fabrication. He was a devoted member of the Cairo First Baptist Church.
Sammy owned and operated a family business for 30 plus years. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed cooking for others, loved his wife and family. If you were looking for Sammy, you would find him on the pond fishing, strolling around the neighborhood on his daily walks picking up golf balls that were still in play, on his lawnmower, or making homemade sausage for his famous “turd” rolls to share with family and friends. Every morning for the past 30 years, Sammy could be found in a local lake fishing with his lifelong friend, Tommy Voyles, who preceded him in death in 2023. And on a Sunday, you would find him at church as he was a devout Christian.
Survivors include: his wife, Julia H. George of Cairo, GA; daughters, Lisa George Gardner of Cairo, GA, Tina George Goldberg (Dr. Kevin Goldberg) of Savannah, GA, Deena George Wilcox (Dallas) of Cairo, GA; and grandchildren, Susanna Caroline Smith of Cairo, GA, Mia Rose Goldberg of Savannah, GA, Anna Belle Wilcox of Cairo, GA, Jillian Sarah Goldberg of Savannah, GA, Jackson Blake “Junior” Wilcox of Cairo, GA.
