Ruth Varnadore Stewart
April 1, 1934 – June 12, 2023

Ruth Varnadore Stewart, 89, of Athens, GA, passed away peacefully at Manor Lake Assisted Living in Athens, GA on Monday, June 12, 2023.  Private interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA on Thursday, June 15, 2023.  A family memorial service will be held at a later time.

Mrs. Stewart was born on April 1, 1934, in Ty Ty, GA, to the late Wilmer Allen Varnadore and Iris Lillian Rouse Varnadore.  On July 11, 1952, she married Richard Melvin Stewart, who preceded her in death on June 14, 2020.  They were married for almost 68 years.  She was previously employed as the vice president of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association in Albany, GA.  She was the Past President of Albany Elks Aidmore Auxiliary.  She was a devoted member of the Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church in Albany, GA.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Stewart Crew and husband, John of Statham, GA; her grandsons, Stewart Crew of Atlanta, GA and Zachary Crew and his wife, Candace of Athens, GA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a grandson, John William Crew, Jr.
