Opal Brinson Brinkley
May 8, 1937 – August 31, 2022

Funeral services for Opal Lou Brinson Brinkley, 85, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Midway Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Steve Wooten and Rev. Marc Walters will officiate.  Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mrs. Brinkley passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

Mrs. Brinkley was born on May 8, 1937, in Maranatha, FL, to the late Bernice Oneal Brinson and Willie Mae Bruce Brinson.  On August 6, 1954, she married Harvey Eugene “Gene” Brinkley, who preceded her in death on June 29, 2004.  She was a teacher.  Opal was a devoted member of Midway Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her sons, Skip Brinkley (Sheila Ann) of St. Augustine, FL, Darrell Brinkley (Melisa) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Micah Brinkley (Elizabeth) of St. Augustine, FL, April Rapp (Cody) of St. Augustine, FL, Autumn Brinkley of St. Augustine, FL, Heather Brinkley of St. Augustine, FL, Teri Brinkley of Benin, Africa, Caleb Brinkley (Melinda) of Ft. Bragg, NC, Zachary Brinkley (Grace) of Crawfordville, FL, Lindsay Ratclffe of Pearisburg, VA; great-grandchildren, AvahLea, Hanna, Megan, Uriah, Issac, Layella, Tristan, Charleigh, Reagan; brothers, E. J. Brinson of Lakeland, FL, Bill Brinson of Plant City, FL; sister, Shirley Ross of Abbeville, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; and a grandson, Brandon Brinkley.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Brinkley’s memory to: the Roddenbery Memorial Library, 320 North Broad Street, Cairo, GA 39828; or the Halcyon Home, 604 E Clay St, Thomasville, GA 31792.

The family will receive friends at Midway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
