Mildred Thomaston Knighton

Funeral services for Mildred Thomaston Knighton, 93, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. William Hurst will officiate. Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Knighton passed away at her home on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Active pallbearers will be Van Martin, Dwain Dorman, Wesley Arnold, Joshua Daughtry, Cole Riefesel and Grayson Beck.
Mrs. Knighton was born on February 15, 1932, in Columbus, GA, to the late James Walter Thomaston and Cora Jane Noble Thomaston. On April 5, 1953, she married Nolan Thomas Knighton, who preceded her in death on December 15, 1995. She retired as an accountant with the State of Florida. She was a devoted member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church and was prayer warrior for many lives. Some of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family, especially her grands and great grands. She loved working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Mildred’s happy place was relaxing on her back porch.
Survivors include: her daughters, Diann K. Dorman (Donald) of Jackson, AL, Jane K. Martin (Phillip) of Cairo, GA, Nola K. Daughtry (Ralph) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Van Martin of Powder Springs, GA, Dwain Dorman (Robin) of Jackson, AL, Dana D. Arnold (Wesley) of Jackson, AL, Joshua Daughtry (Lindsay) of St. Augustine, FL, Kaila D. Riefesel (Cole) of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren, Grayson Beck of Jackson, AL, Aubrey Martin of Powder Springs, GA, Hunter Daughtry of St. Augustine, FL, Brooks Robert Daughtry of St. Augustine, FL, Savannah Autry of Jackson, AL, Lane Autry of Jackson, AL, Cooper Autry of Summerdale, AL; brother, Gene Thomaston of Thomasville, GA; sisters-in-law, Staffie Turner Thomaston of Cairo, GA, Glenda Engler of Fairview, TN, Anne Horn of Cleveland, TN, Cathy Rusnak of Shalimar, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; brothers and sisters; Walt Thomaston, Helen Williams, Evy Finch, Faye Kirkland and James Thomaston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Knighton’s memory to: Gordon Heights Baptist Church, 1351 5th Street SE, Cairo, GA 39828.
