Mrs. Bell was born on September 5, 1932, in Cairo, GA, to the late Alvin Daughtry, Sr. and Myrtice Marie Walden Daughtry. On September 7, 1951, she married Robert Lee Bell, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1987. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cairo. Merle lived a Christian filled life. She not only studied and taught the Bible, but she also practiced it daily. “Ma Bell,” as she was affectionately known by many of her coworkers, family and friends, was never without a smile or something to share with all. She loved to bake, and you were blessed to bite into one of her many cookies, especially her chocolate layer cake or old-fashioned tea cakes.
Her grandchildren, as well as her family and friends, brought her and her husband, Robert, a tremendous amount of joy. She worked in the medical field for many years. After her retirement, she worked at the Decorating Corner up until she no longer could. She was either in the kitchen or working in her immaculately kept yards and flowers.
Survivors include: her children, Glenda Majors of Cairo, GA, Linda Culbreth (Nathan) of Sumner, GA, Robert Lanny Bell of Pelham, GA; grandsons, Derrick Majors (Jennifer) of Cairo, GA and Jarrod Majors (Laura) of Cairo, GA, Hunter Bell of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren, Corben Majors (fiancée Falyn) of Grand Forks, ND, Noah Majors of Cairo, GA, Kyra Majors of Grand Forks, Alden Majors of Cairo, GA, Landyn Ferguson of Cairo, GA, Jarrod Majors, Jr. of Cairo, GA, Lillith Majors of Cairo, GA, Caiden Bell of Cairo, GA; great-great-grandson, Hayes Majors of Grand Forks, ND; siblings, Annette Shinn of Cairo, GA, Jackie Merkison (Don) of Riverdale, GA, Glenda Herndon (Billy) of Fayetteville, GA, Larry Daughtry of Palmetto, FL, Ralph Daughtry (Nola) of Cairo, GA, Eddie Daughtry (Beverly) of Calvary, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
