Private funeral services for Marjorie Mayfield Taylor, 92, of Thomasville, GA, will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Marc Walters will officiate with interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.
Mrs. Taylor died on July 16, 2026, at The Residence at Oak Grove in Thomasville, GA. She was born on July 27, 1933, to the late Marjorie and Judson Mayfield of Cairo and Calvary, GA. She attended Agnes Scott College, Auburn University, and graduated from Florida State University, later receiving her master’s degree from Valdosta State College. Having taught school in Augusta, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Macon, Miami, at Thomas County Schools, and Thomasville City Schools, she retired in 1996.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First Methodist Church in Cairo. She was a past regent of the Thomasville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Ramble Rose Garden Club of Thomasville, a board member of the Grady General Hospital Support League, a board member of the Grady County Historical Association, a member of the Cairo Women’s Club, a member of the Grady County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of three Bridge clubs in Grady and Thomas County. Marjorie spent several years volunteering as a Gray Lady in Navy Hospitals as she accompanied her Marine husband to his various duty stations.
Her family includes her husband of 69 years, Robert A. Taylor; son Anthony Pierce Taylor III, of Atlanta; daughter Zana Taylor Stephens of Calvary; granddaughter Elizabeth Lawson Mustain of Ochlocknee, granddaughter, Emily Stephens Hicks of Calvary; great granddaughter, Payten Mustain of Ochlocknee, great grandsons, Stephen Hicks, Shawn Hicks, and Zayne Castleberry of Calvary.
Her brothers include the late Lee M. Mayfield of Covington, Georgia; the late Reverend Judson Mayfield of Norfolk, Virginia; and the late Emory L. Mayfield of Tallahassee, Florida.
