Marie Womble Johnson

Funeral services for Marie Elizabeth Womble Johnson, 65, of Whigham, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 19, 2026, at El Bethel Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Dr. Bob Knight will officiate. Services will conclude in the church. Private interment will be in El Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson passed away at Archbold Living in Cairo, GA, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Active pallbearers will be Sterling Womble, Bo Ladner, Kenneth Salter, Richard Brown, Charles Chason, Dustin Starling, Dustin Polk and Kevin Polk.

Mrs. Johnson was born on April 6, 1961, in Cairo, GA, to the late Walter Jerome Womble and Janice Ponder Womble. On October 19, 1983, she married Raymond “Wayne” Johnson, who preceded her in death on May 4, 2023. They were married for 39 years. Marie was a long-time employee of Archbold Memorial Hospital as a patient account counselor. She was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church in Whigham.

Marie devoted her career to serving others. As a grocery store manager, she earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike through her leadership and dependability. Later, she found fulfillment helping patients navigate their medical accounts, always treating each person with kindness, patience, and compassion. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and friendly personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Survivors include: daughters, Nicole Barrett (Andrew) of Cairo, GA, Lacy Johnson Polk (Kyle) of Whigham, GA; grandchildren, McKenna Polk of Cairo, GA, Gracelyn Marie Polk, Emersyn Polk, Kyle Polk, Jr., all of Whigham, GA, Keegan Barrett, Kinsley Rae Barrett, both of Cairo, GA; brothers, Ken Womble (Tisa) of Cairo, GA and Juddy Womble (Beth) of Whigham, GA; mother-in-law, Sylvia Lacy Johnson of Tallahassee, FL; brother-in-law, Doug Johnson of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, and a brother-in-law, John Johnson.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the funeral service.
