Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Dekle Butler (Retired)
September 27, 1972 – February 22, 2024

Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Dekle Butler (Retired), passed away on February 22, 2024, at the age of 51.  Lieutenant Colonel Butler served his country in the United States Army and retired as a career officer with over 22 years of active-duty service.

Ray was born on September 27, 1972, in Tallahassee, Florida to O. Raymond Butler and the late Constance “Connie” Butler. After graduating from Florida State University, he joined the U.S. Army and served around the world in defense of his country.  After retirement from the Army in 2017, Ray indulged his love of adventure in scuba diving, spear fishing, snow skiing, sky diving and travel.  He had a quick wit and a mischievous sense of humor.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother (Connie) and is survived by his father (Ray) and his two sisters, Cindy Kasten (David) of Cairo, Georgia and Linda Butler of Tallahassee.

Burial with full military honors will be on Thursday March 7th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, located at 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida.  A memorial service will be held the same day at 3:00 PM at the Cairo First Methodist Church, located at 318 South Broad Street in Cairo, Georgia.  The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Paul Chafin, T.J. Massey, Brian Coggins, Andy Yates, John Chafin, Waylon Coggins and Gerald Andrews.
