Kay Ulmer Harrison gracefully departed this earthly realm on January 10, 2024, and transitioned to her eternal heavenly home. She leaves behind a legacy of love and unwavering faith.

Kay was born on June 8, 1943, in Whigham, GA, to the late Rufus Leroy Ulmer, Sr. and Ruby Esther Perkins Ulmer.  On November 23, 1962, she married William Grady “Bill” Harrison, Jr., who preceded her in death on June 20, 2001.  She and her husband Bill were the owners of Harrison Auto Parts for many years.

“Love lifted me,” were not just words to Kay; they were the melody of her life. Love was the force that propelled her to create connections, and uplift those around her. Her vivacious spirit and genuine affection had a transformative effect on all those she touched, echoing the sentiment of the hymn that she held dear. She forever had a smile on her face and a prayer in her heart. Her welcoming demeanor, genuine kindness, and infectious laughter turned every encounter into a celebration of life’s blessings. Kay effortlessly created a sense of community wherever she went, fostering connections that transcended time and place whether it was at a church, with family, or in the mountains of North Carolina. She was quick to open her home and host family and friends. She cherished moments spent with her loved ones on Ulmer Road.

Kay devoted her life to loving not only her family and friends but also to loving the Lord and seeking His guidance. She found joy in sitting quietly reading the Bible and in prayer. She truly lived according to the scripture,” the word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path,” (Psalm 119:105).  She frequently filled her days playing the piano and singing hymns. Kay’s passion for Christ resonated throughout all parts of her life and she touched the hearts of all those around her. Kay’s life was a testament to the power of faith.

Kay will continue to be loved and remembered by her children, Pam H. Howell (Wade) of Whigham, GA, Vic Harrison (Wendy) of Bishop, GA; grandchildren, Jordan Howell of Whigham, GA, Madeline Harrison of Columbus, GA; Olivia Harrison, William Harrison, both of Athens, GA; brothers, Dave Ulmer (Janice) of Whigham, GA, Phil Ulmer of Johnson City, TN; sister, Ann Ulmer of Venice, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
