Jeanelle Hobby McKinnon
January 4, 1931 – May 5, 2024

Funeral services for Jeanelle Hobby McKinnon, 93, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. John Paul Hasick will officiate.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Mrs. McKinnon passed away at Archbold Living-Thomasville, GA, on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Active pallbearers will be Collin Wilson, Garrett Wilson, James Maloy, Denny McKinnon, Robert McKinnon and Neal Harrison.  Honorary pallbearers will include Jesse Hobby and Jerry Wilson.

Mrs. McKinnon was born on January 4, 1931, in Cairo, GA, to the late Jesse I. Hobby and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Sutton Hobby.  On January 24, 1947, in Albany, GA, she married James Hugh “Buddie” McKinnon, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1993.  They were married for over 45 years.

She retired from University of Memphis Ticket Office after 24 years.  She later served as  Sorority House Director for Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at Florida State University and Texas A & M University.

A member at First Baptist Church of Cairo, a former member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo GA, where she taught Sunday School.  While in Tallahassee, she was a member of Northwoods Baptist Church, where she taught Bible Study and was active in the Women’s Ministry.  She was also an active volunteer with the Cairo Cancer Society.  Jeanelle’s hobbies included traveling, entertaining and collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Survivors include her son, Hugh McKinnon, Jr. (Lisa) of Brentwood TN; daughter, Kathy Wilson (Jerry) of Houston TX; grandchildren, Collin Wilson of Addison, TX and Garrett Wilson of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Logan Wilson of Houston, TX and Haven Wilson of Houston, TX; brother, Jesse Linford Hobby (Gloria) of Cairo, GA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh “Buddie” McKinnon; her parents, Jesse and Betty Sutton Hobby; and brother and sister-in-law Larry and Betty Hobby.

The family will receive friends at the Cairo First Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
