James Edward “Jimmy” Womble
March 2, 1939 – July 13, 2022

Graveside funeral services for James Edward “Jimmy” Womble, 83, of Whigham, GA, are at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2022, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Derek Milton will officiate.  Mr. Womble passed away at his home on July 13, 2022.

Mr. Womble was born on March 2, 1939, in Cairo, GA, to the late Lawrence Lewis Womble and May Belle Halstead Womble.  Jimmy was self-employed for over 50 years as a master brick mason.  He was a member of the Climax Baptist Church.  He was a Masonic Lodge member of Cairo and Whigham.   Previously he held district deputy of the Grand Lodge of Georgia F.& A.M. for 15 years.

Jimmy spent his life serving others through his cooking talents whether for a benefit dinner or frying fish for United National Bank and his family. He was known as “Papa Jimmy” to many kids over the years.  He loved being outdoors and making people laugh. Jimmy was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Survivors include: his children, Cindy Taliaferro (Scott) of Whigham, GA, James G. Womble (Sheila) of Cairo, GA, Kimberly Womble of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, John Mark Bryant (Melissa) of Eldorendo, GA, Tara Womble Milton (Derek) of Cairo, GA, Malorie Williams (Blake) of Thomasville, GA, Grady Womble (Emalee) of Cairo, GA, Samuel Whitley of Cairo, GA, Kady Griffin (Christian) of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Lake Bryant of Eldorendo, GA, Collins Milton, Tyson Milton, both of Cairo, GA, Briar Williams of Thomasville, GA, Dalton Womble of Cairo, GA; brothers, Earl Womble (Marie) of Tallahassee, FL, Mark Womble of Newton, GA; sisters, Jerry Cochran of Warner Robins, GA, JoAnn Long (Jim) of Dixie, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Peggy Bettison; and a brothers, Charles “Buck” Womble, infant Willard Womble; and a granddaughter, Abbie Lynn Whitley.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Womble’s memory to: Masonic Children’s Home, Grand Lodge Secretary, P. O. Box 4665, Macon, GA  31208.

The family will receive friends at Climax Baptist Church on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
