Funeral services for Jacquelyn Wade Chambers, 90, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Chris Allen will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Chambers passed away at Magnolia Place Senior Living in Cairo, on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Active pallbearers will be Andy Joyner, Jeff Joyner, Garry Childs, Jimmy Miller, Patrick Smith and Ken Chambers. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Joyner.
Jacquelyn Wade Chambers was born December 25, 1935, in Grady County, GA, to the late Grady Wade and the late Gonez Singletary Wade. On August 4, 1961, she married Hubert Chambers, who preceded her in death on September 9, 2010. They were married for 49 years.
She was a graduate of Cairo High School, class of 1953. She obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Valdosta State University. She began her teaching career at Elpino School, before becoming a part of the inaugural faculty of Shiver School, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Jackie.” After taking a break to start her family, she returned to teaching in the Pelham City School System before coming back to Cairo and finishing her career at Southside Elementary. In retirement, she went to work at Pebble Hill Plantation, where she worked in the office, the gift shop, and as a docent.
She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, serving in various capacities through the years. She was a member of the Grady County Retired Educators Association, and a former member of the Cairo Pilot Club. She served many years as a volunteer pink lady with the Grady General Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed participating in the senior groups of several local churches.
Jackie was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She embraced the farm life that she shared with her husband. She enjoyed cooking, reading, travelling, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She was full of life and always on the go. She especially enjoyed taking trips to the Great Smoky Mountains in the fall. She was a firm believer in the value of education and took great delight in meeting her former students as adults. She was a woman of deep Christian faith and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her indomitable spirit always shined brightly. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her son, Ed Chambers of Cairo, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Gladys Chambers of Tallahassee, FL; her cousins, Marilyn Joyner and Gene Wade, both of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Chambers; her parents Grady Wade and Gonez Singletary Wade; her stepfather, Morgan Ferrell; a special aunt and uncle, Agnes and Stacy Williams; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Verne Hicks, John and Edna Lane, Edwin and Lucille Chambers, Harry Chambers, Ewell and Hazel Chambers, Oren and Connie Chambers, Garland and Dot Grimsley, Gene and Carolyn Townsend, and Monty and Mabel Chambers.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Place and Georgia Hospice for their loving care of Jackie during the final stage of her life.
