Ila Ponder 93, of Whigham, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Colquitt Regional Hospital in Moultrie, GA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ponder are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 31,2025, at Union Springs Baptist Church in Whigham, GA. Rev. James Knight will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Survivors include her sons; Ernest Ponder (Nancy) of Trenton, GA, Donald Ponder (Martha) of Whigham, GA, Jimmie Ponder, of Moultrie, GA, Jesse Ponder of Whigham, GA, daughters; Wanda Steele (Dan), of Cairo, GA and Teressa Spears (Stan), of Slocomb, AL, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, sisters; Erma S. Maxwell of Thomasville, GA, Natholyn S. Tilman (James), of Calhoun, GA, Lavonia Carter of Cairo, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family

Active pallbearers are Marcus Brinkley, Brock Ponder, Stephen Ponder, Jim Ponder, Shan Ponder and Tyler Steele

Mrs. Ponder was born on December 24, 1931, in Whigham, GA, to the late Leon and Eddie Singletary. She was a dedicated farm wife, mother, and friend to many. Not only was she a hard worker in the field alongside her husband and children, but she was also a very humble lady who loved her God and her church family. She worked in many capacities in her church. Mrs. Ponder was known to work all morning and afternoon in the fields and then go home and make wonderful meals for everyone on the farm. She was always smiling, no matter the circumstances. She will be remembered for her sweet and forgiving spirit. Her faith was in her God and his provisions.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; Lester Ponder, her parents; Leon and Eddie Singletary, her children; Sandra June Ponder and Kay Ponder Brinkley, her brothers; Lester Singletary, Ivy Singletary, Olen Singletary, and Virgil Singletary, her sisters; Evelyn Brinson Howell and Gladys Denveny, her brothers-in-law; William Tillis and Don Carter, her daughters-in-law; Teresa Ponder and Darlene Ponder, and her great granddaughter; Tensley Ann Tate
