Gwen Elizabeth “Libby” Walden
March 31, 1948 – October 8, 2025

Longtime Moultrie resident Gwen Elizabeth “Libby” Walden passed away Wednesday, Oct 8, 2025, at Archbold Living Nursing Home in Cairo, GA, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11th at Trinity Baptist Church in Moultrie. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Trinity. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Providence Community Cemetery in Whigham, GA. Clark Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements. The Revs. Nick Dawson and Jerry Mahan will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Cairo on Friday, Oct. 10.

Libby was the wife of former Moultrie Observer publisher Dwain Walden, who survives. She was born March 31, 1948, in Cairo. Her parents were Warren Gwinn and Lorene Barrett Booth who preceded her in death.

Libby graduated from Whigham High School in 1966 where she was class salutatorian. She graduated from Georgia Southwestern State College in Americus, GA in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She taught second and third grades in Thomasville, GA, Cleveland, TN and Moultrie.

Libby was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was involved for years with the Girls Auxiliary and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed the outdoors, music and yoga. An avid animal lover, she could often be seen walking her dogs Dandy, Fancy, Bojangles, Jinx and Max.

Other survivors include a son, Chad Walden (Elizabeth) of Whigham: a sister, Peggy Wheeler of Whigham; a brother-in-law, Billy Walden of Cairo; sisters-in-law, Frances Ezell and Judy Lamb of Whigham; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Jane Walden and brothers-in-law, Aris Wheeler and Durwood Ezell, preceded her in death.

The family requests that any memorials go to The Parkinson’s Foundation or the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society.
