George Truett Kesler, Jr.

Funeral services for George Truett Kesler, Jr., 66, of Cairo, GA, are at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Pine Level Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Will Cook will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Level Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Kesler passed away at his home on Monday, September 22, 2025.

The family invites you to join them in honoring George “Daddy” by wearing red and black to his service in celebration of his memory, devotion and roots to Athens and UGA football.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Drew Pyrz, James Folsom, Michael Moore, Justin Davidson, Bryson Cape, Tommy Brinkley, Kevin Harrison and Jeffrey Cape. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the UGA 1980 National Championship Football Team.

Mr. Kesler was born on January 18, 1959, in Athens, GA, to the late George Truett Kesler, Sr. and Sarah Frances Williams Kesler. He graduated from Clarke Central High School in Athens, GA and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1981. At UGA, he was a walk-on to the team and later was awarded a full scholarship under the leadership of Coach Vince Dooley. He was a member of the 1980 National Football Championship Team. He worked with Wights Nursery for over 20 years and later was a professional self-employed painter. He was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Sherri Womble Kesler of Cairo, GA; children, Carrie Kesler Stanaland (Seth) of Cairo, GA, Georgia Kesler Hammond (Daniel) of Cairo, GA, Macey Kesler of Cairo, GA, Anna Kesler of Cairo, GA; mother of Carrie and Georgia, Teresa Massey Prince of Cairo, GA; sister, Jan Kesler Lord of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Brady Hammond, Gabby Hammond, Annabelle Stanaland, Penny Hammond, Marley Hammond, Maryalice Stanaland; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sheila W. Cape (Jeffrey) of Cairo, GA; and nephews and nieces, Justin Davidson (Lane), Lauren Davidson Thompson (Scotty), Bryson Cape (Hannah).

He was preceded in death by: his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Beverly Womble; brother-in-law, Richard A. Womble; and a niece, Ansley Davidson.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Kesler’s memory to: Georgia Hospice, 303 E Shotwell Steet, Bainbridge, GA 39819.

The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Pine Level Baptist Church on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
