George Stephens Newman, Sr.
December 27, 1937 – August 31, 2025

George Stephens Newman, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

George was born on December 27, 1937, in Atkinson County, GA to the late Clayton Howard Newman and Mary Lee “BeBe” Bell Newman.

He graduated from Cairo High School, Middle Georgia College and attended the University of Georgia. He also served in the United States Army. He married Deborah Harrison Newman in 1977.

George is survived by his son, Steve Newman (Kelli) of Port St. Joe, FL and his daughter, Sandy Rodabaugh (Mark) of Lascassas, TN; grandchildren, Elise Ponder of Lascassas TN, Hayden Newman, Farren Newman and Ellison Newman, all of Port St. Joe, FL, sister-in- law, Voncile Davis (Banjo) of Cairo, GA, brother-in-law, Dexter Harrison of Cairo, GA and nephews, Max Vanlandingham of FL, Kent Davis of Tallahassee, FL and Rob Davis of Hartwell, GA.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Doris Newman Vanlandingham of Cairo, GA.

George and Deborah were married for 47 years and worked together in the construction business for four decades. He was a respected realtor and builder in Cairo GA, Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach and surrounding areas.

Upon retirement, George and Deborah moved back to their hometown, Cairo, GA, where they enjoyed time on their beloved farm. He was an avid enthusiast of nature, Deborah’s cooking, fishing, his dogs, reading and the Georgia Bulldogs.

The family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
