Funeral services for Eva Elizabeth Hawthorn Godwin, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Her grandsons, Jarred Robinson and Justin Robinson, will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Godwin passed away at The Residence at Oak Grove in Thomasville, GA, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Gainous, James Cason, Stephen Robinson, Jarred Robinson, Justin Robinson and Terry Rehberg.
Mrs. Godwin was born on April 20, 1940, in Whigham, GA, to the late Alton Hawthorn and Lila Harrison Hawthorn. On April 25, 1959, she married William Chesley “Willie” Godwin, who preceded her in death on February 8, 2020. She was an amazing mother to her three daughters, and Mema to her three grandchildren and ten great grandkids. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: daughters, Kay Griner of Cairo, GA, Barbara Robinson (Robbie) of Franklin, TN, Connie Rykard (Maurice) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Jarred Robinson (Amanda) of Port Saint Joe, FL, Justin Robninson (Miranda) of Libby, MT, Brittany Cason (James) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren, Stephen Robinson, Silas Robinson, Sean Robinson, Samuel Robinson, all of Libby, MT, Sierra Robinson, Savannah Robinson, Seth Robinson, Sawyer Robinson, all of Port Saint Joe, FL, CJ Cason, Shelby Cason, both of Cairo, GA; sisters, Mary Singletary of Grovetown, GA, Ethel Gainous (John) of Cairo, GA; brother-in-law, Johnny Godwin (Mary Alice) of Thomasville, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Alton and Lila Hawthorn; her husband, Willie Godwin; granddaughter, Tiffany Rykard; great-grandson, Kristopher Robinson; brothers, Council Hawthorn, Elmer Hawthorne, Herman Hawthorn, Bill Hawthorn; sisters, Dorothy Hawthorn, Janie Brown, Geneva Hawthorn; and sisters-in-law, Nathelyn Hawthorne, Gloria Jean Hawthorne.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
