Dewey Arnold Thompson

Graveside funeral services for Dewey Arnold Thompson, 101, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Pastor Johnny H. Moore will officiate. Military Honors will be presented. Mr. Thompson passed away at home on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Mr. Thompson was born on August 31, 1924, in Dawson, GA, to the late John Franklin Thompson and Sarah Watkins Thompson. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He served over 2 years of the war overseas in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland campaigns.
In June 1946, he married the late Minnie Wade Thompson. They had three children, Donnis, Danny, and Richard. On June 4, 1966, he married Louise Dunn Thompson, and she died in August 2008 after a long illness. On February 6, 2010, he married Sue Collins Thompson, who passed away in January 2025.
Dewey worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Cairo for thirty years. He began his service as a substitute city postmaster, then clerk, and 6 years as assistant postmaster. During his last 4 years with the post office, he worked as a rural letter carrier. After retiring from the postal service, he went into the antique furniture and upholstery business opening Dewey’s Antiques and Upholstery, which he operated until a few years ago.
Dewey was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and has been a member of several Baptist churches in the area. He has taught Sunday School at each one of those.
Survivors include: his son, Danny Thompson (Linda) of Thomasville, GA; son-in-law, Wendell Brinson of Donalsonville, GA; grandchildren, Lisa Denson (Kurt) of McQueeney, TX, Cindy Burgess (Jeff) of Cairo, GA, Christy Covington (Russ) of Ochlocknee, Scott Barrineau of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Tyler Denson (Mariah) of New Braunfels, TX, Amber Stanaland (Tanner) of Cairo, GA, Skylar Burgess of Cairo, GA, Braeden Denson of McQueeney, TX, Logan Conner (Jon) of Ochlocknee, GA, Dalin Covington of Ochlocknee, GA, C.J. Covington of Ochlocknee, GA; great-great-grandchildren, Liam Denson, Kennedy Denson, both of New Braunfels, TX, Harper Stanaland, Myles Stanaland, both of Cairo, GA, Luke Conner of Ochlocknee, GA.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, John F. and Sarah Thompson; wives, Minnie Wade Thompson, Louise Dunn Thompson, Sue Collins Baggett Askew Thompson; son, Richard Dewey Thompson; daughter, Donnis Thompson Brinson; and siblings, Louise Sellers, Marjorie Thompson, John T. Thompson, Bobby E. Thompson.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
