Mr. Mitchell was born on December 7, 1938, in Lake Park, GA, to the late Charlie Mitchell and Ruby Lee Mitchell. He served his country in the United States Army. On May 12, 1958, he married Shirley Allen Mitchell, who preceded him in death on May 19, 1998. He retired as a truck driver. He was a member of the Abundant Life Binders & Believers Church in Cairo.
Charles Mitchell lived his days with authentic generosity. His love for the Lord was strong, and their relationship was the basis of the life he lived. His heart, hands, and home were all places that welcomed and loved many, as if they were his own. He loved his family unconditionally and deeply. In his lifetime, he worked many jobs, but nothing made him happier than the roar of 18 wheels beneath him and the break of static coming across his CB radio with voices from home saying, “Breaker 19, ‘Patches,’ come in … Copy?” Those moments reminded him of why he worked hard, and he kept on trucking. They were his priority. His love for making memories inspired countless fish fries, peanut boils, and family gatherings. Charles loved music, especially bluegrass, “real country music” (he’d make that clear), and Southern Gospel. The feeling of a fish tugging on his line made him smile almost as much as the feeling of catfish, cheese grits, and hush puppies in his belly. He spoke sarcasm fluently, and it never seemed to bother him that he was the only one laughing at his jokes. There was a sincerity in his love that a million articulate words cannot convey, but if he loved you … You understand that already.
