Mrs. Elkins passed away at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, GA, on July 15, 2021.

Mrs. Elkins was born on April 24, 1937, in Cairo, GA, to the late Luther Enoch Williams and Tempie Whitfield Williams. On January 15, 1956, she married James Franklin Elkins, who preceded her in death on November 20, 1996. She spent her career as a Sales Associate for Grocery Retail and Publishing.

Charlene began her work history as a junior in high school where she would walk from the school to Bob’s Grocery; this began a 26-year career in the grocery business. After nine months at home preparing daily home-cooked meals for family, friends, and unexpected guests, she decided to return to work at The Cairo Messenger where she worked for 18 years before her final retirement.

Charlene loved spending time in her kitchen and yard. She baked many delicious cakes for family, friends, and people in her community. The simplest things in life brought the greatest joy; and those included her family, friends, and her church. She was a Christian woman who put her family’s needs before her own by helping and doing for others.  She was a devoted member of Woodland Methodist Church.  Charlene will be remembered as a true Southern lady, a remarkable person who was loved by all.
