Carolyn Jones Trawick, 90, passed away on a beautiful spring morning, April 15.
Mrs. Trawick was born on December 10, 1935, in Calvary, Georgia, to the late William Carl Jones and Leona Maxwell Jones. She was an honor graduate of Cairo High School, Class of 1953, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Valdosta State College in 1957. She married the love of her life, Herbert Rex Trawick of Iron City, Georgia, in 1957 and together they built a life centered on family, faith and community. Carolyn retired after 35 years as a legal assistant with the Florida Education Association in Tallahassee, Florida.
Known as Carolyn, Mom, Grandma, Mimi, and Doodles, she carried many names throughout her life. Each name reflected a role she cherished and the deep love she had for her family. A woman of deep love and generosity, Carolyn was happiest when surrounded by her family. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took immense pride in each of them. She had a gift for hospitality and was known for welcoming others into her home, most memorably during the annual oyster suppers she and Rex hosted for family and friends.
After moving from Tallahassee to Cairo, she became an active and faithful member of Cairo First Methodist Church, where she contributed her time and talents, including singing in the Chancel Choir. She was also a dedicated member of the Woman’s Club of Cairo and the Magnolia Garden Club.
She found joy in traveling, shopping, and sharing life’s experiences with family and friends. Carolyn visited many states and countries, always delighting in bringing back special souvenirs for those she loved. She had a passion for cooking and baking, often preparing cakes for family gatherings and church events — a gift she learned from her mother, an exceptional cook. Her love of flowers and houseplants – especially her cherished African violets, which were a legacy from her mother.
Carolyn was also known for her attention to detail, particularly when it came to her home and her food — everything had its place and was done just right, a quality that earned her the affectionate nickname “Picky” during weekends barrel racing at horse shows.
She had a whimsical and endearing love for bunny rabbits, collecting hundreds over the years — small treasures that filled her home and brought her joy. Carolyn enjoyed staying connected through her computer and iPad and was an avid reader. She took great pleasure in organizing class reunions and luncheons for her Cairo High School Class of 1953, faithfully keeping classmates connected over the years.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons: Thomas Carl Jackson, Michael Lance Trawick, Ryan Timothy Andrews, Chad Allen Andrews, Lucas Franklin Trawick, and Christopher Logan Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Burleigh Law Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela Trawick Chastain (Myron) of Cairo, GA; son, Michael Rex Trawick (Becky) of Havana, FL; and daughter, Sherri Trawick Andrews (Timothy) of Cairo, GA.
