Mrs. Darsey was born on July 3, 1943, in Cairo, GA, to the late Stion Franklin Brinson and Ruby Hudson Brinson. She was a member of the Cairo High School Class of 1961. On November 25, 1961, she married Johnny Keith Darsey, Jr. They were married at the Calvary Baptist Church and have been happily married for over 63 years. She was a published author and poet and wrote under the pen name, Rebekah Stion. She used this name to honor her father and mother. Her children’s works were about the adventures of Sam the dog and her son Dean. The 5-book series was published by Standard Publishing, Cincinnati, Ohio and was accompanied by coloring books, read-along tapes, and Sam plush toy dogs. For decades after the books first-publishing in the 1980’s, she cherished opportunities to share the adventures of Sam in person at libraries, schools, TV appearances and conventions locally and across the US. The stories centered around God’s love experienced by Sam and Dean, and the farm-life shared with family and friends in the wonderful community of Calvary, Georgia. In 1988, she won the Georgia Author of the Year in Juvenile Writing. Her work life included school teacher/administrator, office management with Florida State Attorney, certified floral designer, and inspirational speaker.
Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother; and sharing life with her church family as she was serving the Lord.
Survivors include: her husband, Johnny Darsey of Calvary, GA; son, Dean Darsey (Edress) of Peachtree Corners, GA; grandchildren, Madison Darsey Reynolds (Justin) of Homewood, AL and Hunter Darsey of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother, Jerry Brinson of Whigham, GA; brothers-in-law, Terry Darsey of Calvary, GA, Neal Darsey (Debbee) of Calvary, GA; sister-in-law Delita Brinson of Tallahassee, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
