Arthur Park Carlton
October 20, 1935 – April 10, 2021

Funeral services for Arthur Park Carlton of Lakeland, FL, are at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Steve Wooten will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Mr. Carlton passed away on April 10, 2021 at the age of 85.

Active pallbearers will be David Connell, Jimmy Cook, Dewey Donalson, Ever Umanvor, Danny Wiggins and Ken Wiggins.

Arthur was born to Park and Nellie Carlton on October 20, 1935 in Broxton, Georgia.  Mr. Carlton graduated from Cairo High School in the class of 1955, and proudly served in the United States Navy as Radioman 3rd class, from 1955-1959.  Following his military service, Arthur graduated from Southern Business University in 1960.  Together with his wife Thelma, they moved from Cairo, Georgia to Lakeland, Florida in 1966. He was employed with Watkins Motor Lines and then became an Insurance agent.  He was the former President of Polk Association of Independent Insurance Agents.  He was a member of Ardella Baptist Church since 1967.

Mr. Carlton loved singing Southern Gospel Music and sang with The Sonshine Harmony Boys, Good News Quartet, Palm State Quartet and The Shepherd’s Four.  He was a member of the Florida High School Activities Association for 24 years serving as a football official.  He loved being with his family and friends, and playing golf, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma Donalson Carlton of Lakeland, FL; two daughters, April Carlton and Anita Carlton, both of Lakeland, FL; sister, Naomi Carlton White of Cairo, GA; brother, Cecil Carlton (Joyce) of Newport News, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
