Funeral services for Jean C. Mitchell, 90, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00pm., Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Faith Christian Center, Cairo, GA. Rev. David Coleman, Sr. and Rev. Johnny H. Moore will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Mitchell passed away at her childhood home on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Active pallbearers will be Keith Harrell, Zack Wilson, Kevin Keve, Hansell Bearden, John Henry Mitchell, Wayne Morgan, Phillip Palmer, and Hilton Lashley.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on July 27, 1935, in Cairo, GA, to the late James Edgar Collins and Evelyn Collins Burgess. She married her husband who precedes her in death Mr. Bobby B. Mitchell on December 31, 1955.
Jean was deeply devoted to serving her community, working faithfully alongside her beloved husband, Bobby B. Mitchell. Together, they were the heart of countless local efforts, receiving numerous community service honors, including awards from the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations recognizing their tireless dedication. Known for their compassion and generosity, Jean and Bobby never hesitated to rally support for those facing illness or overwhelming medical expenses. One of their most cherished traditions was hosting community fish fries, using the proceeds to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in need. Through these acts of kindness, they touched the lives of many in Cairo, Georgia, leaving a legacy of love, service, and selflessness.
Survivors include: children, Richard B. Mitchell of Cairo, GA, James Al Mitchell of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Bobby W. Mitchell (Emily) of Cairo, GA, Melissa M. Johnson (Steven) of Cairo, GA, GA; great-grandchildren, Pace Mitchell (Sydney), Paxton Mitchell of Cairo, GA, Collin Johnson (Olivia) of Cairo, GA, Brody Johnson of Cairo, GA; sisters; Ruth Hough, of Tallahassee, FL, Beth Thompson, of Cairo, GA; Special friends Hilton and Lynda Lashley of Cairo, GA; and the mother of her grandchildren Sonya Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband of 66 years Bobby B Mitchell, and grandson Dallas Johnson.
