Candace Nicole “Hootie” Barrett

Funeral services for Candace Nicole “Hootie” Barrett, 36, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Providence Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Rev. Bryan Gainous will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in the family cemetery. Mrs. Barrett passed away at Grady General Hospital, Cairo, GA, on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Active pallbearers will be Andy Joyner, Perry Keyton, Blake Wisham, Will Jones, Brice Edwards and Rob Avery.

Mrs. Barrett was born on September 9, 1988, in Thomasville, GA, to Donald Lee Howell and Rebecca Carol Misso Howell. On August 21, 2010, she married Allen Barrett. Candace was a nurse employed with Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Hootie was a dedicated nurse, softball coach, and she loved riding horses. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: her husband, Allen Barrett of Cairo, GA; her daughter, Kaylee Barrett of Cairo, GA; parents, Donnie and Rebecca Howell of Cairo, GA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete Boshart and Cindy Barrett of Cairo, GA; siblings, Levi Crawford (Lacey) of Cairo, GA, Crystal Capshaw (Joey) of Cairo GA, Krista Candelaria (Nestor) of Cairo, GA, Joleen Smith (Will) of Bainbridge, GA, Nina Gunn (Stacey) of Scooterville, GA, Melissa Boyett (Lyle) of Bainbridge GA; nieces and nephews, Lauren Prance, Morgan Vaughn, Allison Reyes, Cody Slusher, Ty Hatcher, Jayda Hatcher, Kenzlea Candelaria, Jax Hatcher, Eli Candelaria, Layden Crawford, Lincoln Crawford, AnnLee Boyett, Kori Boyett, Luke Boyett, and Jennah Capshaw; and a host of extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Phillip Merritt; father-in-law, Benjamin Allen “Benny” Barrett, Sr.; and a nephew, Max Candelaria.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Barrett’s memory to: Cairo High School, Girl’s Softball Team, 455 5th St SE, Cairo, GA 39828.

The family will receive friends at Providence Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
