David Ferris Irwin
May 24, 1944 – September 29, 2026

A private funeral service for David Ferris Irwin, 82, of Cairo, GA, will be on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Chris Allen will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Mr. Irwin passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Mr. Irwin was born on May 24, 1944, in Lansing, MI, to the late Hubbard Irwin and Lola Irwin. He served in the National Guard and the Naval Reserve. He proudly spent his life being a fire fighter and a law enforcement officer. He retired as a firefighter from the United States Marine Corp Base in Albany, GA on June 30, 2004.

On June 24, 2000, he married Ruth Sangster Irwin. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Pine Level Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Irwin of Cairo, GA; children, Jim Irwin (Beverly) of Havana, FL, Vickie Irwin Newsome (Don) of Vada, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Newsome (Morgan) of Vada, GA, Donna Foister (Craig) of Vada, GA, Rachel McLaughlin (Patryk) of Tallahassee, FL, Holland Irwin of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Madison Brazel (Peyton), Brimley Newsome, Rylee Newsome, Case Newsome, Luke Foister, Natalee Foister, Anna Lee Foister; brothers, Randy Huey (Phyllis) of Zephyrhills, FL, Ricky Huey (Nancy) of Zephyrhills, FL. He gained additional family by marriage: children, Vickie Dykes (Robert) of Cairo, GA, Karen Maige (Rawlings) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Graham Dykes (Ashley), Emoree Dykes, Taylor Harness (Hunter), Harrison Maige; greatgrandchild, Davis Dykes. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Merrill Hicks with Georgia Kidney and Hypertension Clinic, and Kerri Carrinhan and Tiyah Walton with Affinity Hospice for the loving care.

They also extend a special heartfelt thanks to his brother, Randy and sister-in-law, Phyllis, who never left his side.
