Sara Francis Gainey

Funeral services for Sara Francis Gainey, 93, of Tallahassee, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Matthew Nance will officiate. Services will conclude in the chapel. Private interment will be in Gainey Cemetery. Mrs. Gainey passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, FL, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Mrs. Gainey was born on August 3, 1932, in Cairo, GA, to the late Samuel Arthur Stephens & Trudie Maxwell Stephens. On April 9, 1955, she married Horace Edwin Gainey, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2008. They were married for 53 years. She retired as the calendar clerk for the State of Florida Supreme Court after 49 years of employment.

Survivors include: her son, Gary E. Gainey (Terri) of Cumming, GA; grandson, Zachary Gainey of Savannah, GA; brother, Neal Stephens (Barbara Ann) of Havana, FL; sister-in-law, Beverly Stephens of Quincy, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Horace E. Gainey; and siblings, Marjorie Gwaltney, Cuy Stephens, and Hazel Estridge.
