Zack Hunter Calhoun, Sr.

Funeral services for Zack Hunter Calhoun, Sr., 89, of Bainbridge, GA, are at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Elder Tony Marshall and Elder Jon Mizell will officiate. Interment will be in Trinity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Calhoun passed away at home on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Ponder, Harley Ponder, Sammy Perkins, Lafe Perkins, Tony Godwin and Lavon Connell. Honorary pallbearer will be Donald Connell.
Mr. Calhoun was born on March 8, 1937, in Boykin, GA, to the late Zack Taylor Calhoun and Claudia Mae Middleton Calhoun. “Docky”, as he was known in childhood to his family and friends, was known for his mischievous ways. However, he didn’t face too many consequences for his actions, thanks to his older sisters who always protected their baby. Zack was a 1956 graduate of Miller County High School and a multi-sport athlete. On July 8, 1961, he married Annie Helen Hollingsworth Calhoun, who preceded him in death on May 29, 2016. They were married for over 55 years. He retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 40 years of employment. He was a devoted member of Trinity Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served his country in the Army National Guard for over 30 years.
After his retirement, Zack kept the road hot. Whether it was playing Canasta, vacationing at their mountain home, serving as a bailiff at the Decatur County Courthouse, or assisting with local elections, Zack couldn’t sit still. He also spent many years being a beloved Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, where he never learned to use the word “no.”
Survivors include: children, Zack “Hunter” Calhoun (Lisa) of Bainbridger, GA; Brian Keith Calhoun (Patty) of Bainbridge, GA; grandchildren, Melissa Boyett (Lyle) of Bainbridge, GA, Heather Vickers (Kyle) of Bainbridge, GA, Michaela Calhoun (Bowen), Emily Calhoun, both of Bainbridge, GA, Maegan Calhoun of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren, Luke Boyett, Annlee Boyett, Kori Boyett, Avery Vickers, Sawyer Vickers, Logan Vickers, Miles Vickers, Eliza Calhoun, all of Bainbridge, GA; sister, Shirley Smith of Lynn Haven, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Annie Helen Calhoun; sibling, Tecie Smith, Juanita Estergren, Mary Lou Franklin, Lurley Haire, Nannie Mae Pugh, W. C. Calhoun and W. M. Calhoun.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
