William Robert “Bill” Maxwell
March 14, 1935 – March 15, 2026

Funeral services for William Robert “Bill” Maxwell, 91, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Jimmy Ausburn will officiate. Military Honors will be presented at the Chapel. Interment with Masonic Rites will be at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Mr. Maxwell passed away at Archbold Living-Cairo, GA, on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Active pallbearers will be Gordon Elderdice, Erik Elderdice, Carson Elderdice, LaDon Butler, Alvin Thomas and Austin Thomas.

Mr. Maxwell was born on March 14, 1935, in Cairo, GA, to the late William Yancy Maxwell and Margaret Ausburn Maxwell. He served his country in the United States Navy. On September 15, 1964, he married Clara Weems Maxwell, who preceded him in death on June 1, 2014. He retired as an Operating Engineer with International Union of Operating Engineers – Local 487. He was a Mason at Oleta Lodge in Miami Springs, FL. Bill’s hobbies included golfing, fishing, and dancing.

Survivors include: his daughter, LouAnn Maxwell Elderdice (Gordon) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Janie Elderdice of Orlando, FL, Erik Elderdice of Jacksonville, FL, Carson Elderdice of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Yancy Maxwell (Janice) of Whigham, GA; sister, Eula Grace Butler of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Maxwell and his wife, Clara Weems Maxwell.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Maxwell’s memory to: Archbold Foundation to support their hospice services in Grady County.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
