Funeral services for Marie Barfield Humphries, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Pine Park Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Franklin Sasser and Rev. Billy Majors will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Humphries passed away at Glenn-Mor Nursing Home in Thomasville, GA, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

Active pallbearers will be Trey Ezell, Dylan Vann, Chris Harrell, Will Jones, Wesley Willis and Jerry Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin C. “Buddy” and Louise Sasser, George and Virginia Donalson, and all of Marie’s nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Humphries was born on May 8, 1930, in Thomasville, GA, to the late Elvin B. Barfield and Esther Nix Barfield. On April 21, 1952, she married Robert Cecil Humphries, who preceded her in death on May 28, 1989. She was employed with Warners Clothing and later in her career with Grady General Hospital. She was a devoted member of Pine Park Baptist Church for over 44 years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Marie was instrumental in starting the church’s food closet. She actively continued participation in church activities until she no longer could due to her declining health. She enjoyed writing poetry and sharing with her family, friends and loved ones.

Survivors include: children: Glenn A. Humphries (Melanie) of Ochlocknee, GA, Robert C. Humphries (Robin) of Cairo, GA, Angela H. Jones (Jerry) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Lauren Ezell (Trey) of Thomasville, GA, Austin Harrell (Chris) of Whigham, GA, Will Jones (Skylar) of Cairo, GA, Wesley “Jay” Willis (Jannea) of Semmes, AL; great-grandchildren, Dylan Vann of Thomasville, GA, Tayler Marie Vann of Thomasville, GA, Kinsley Jones of Cairo, GA, Justin Willis of Salem, AL, Cameron Willis of Salem, AL, Riley Willis of Salem, AL; brothers, Lamon Barfield of Bainbridge, GA, Cecil Barfield of Bainbridge, GA; sister, Alice Barfield Chastain (Jack) of Whigham, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and a brother, Bobby G. Barfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Humphries’ memory to: Pine Park Baptist Church, Food Closet, 3783 Pine Park Road, Cairo, GA 39828.

The family will receive friends at Pine Park Baptist Church on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., the funeral hour.
