James Earl McCorkle
September 8, 1928 – August 12, 2020

Private graveside funeral services for James Earl McCorkle, 91, of Cairo, GA, will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Johnny Burdick will officiate.  Mr. McCorkle passed away peacefully at his home in Cairo, GA, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

Mr. McCorkle was born on September 8, 1928, in Whigham, GA, to the late R. V. McCorkle and Etta Godwin McCorkle.  He served his country in the United States Air Force during and after WWII as a member of the 1111th Special Air Mission Squadron.  On Nov. 24, 1950, he married Myrtle Roberson McCorkle, who survives.  He retired as the part-owner and driver of McCorkle Logging.  He was a devoted member of Midway Baptist Church in Cairo, GA where he served in many capacities, but was most proud of his 49 years as church treasurer.  Mr. Earl, as he was known by many in the community, was a fixture at Miss Myrt’s downtown Cairo, where he never met a stranger.  He will be remembered as always seeing the good in everyone he met.

Survivors include: his wife, Myrtle McCorkle of Cairo, GA; son, Larry McCorkle (Alice) of Cairo, GA; daughter, Debbi Miller (Steve) of Cairo, GA; grandchildren, Allison Bass (Joel) of Cairo, GA, Laura Brinkley (Ben) of Tallahassee, FL, Hal Miller of Atlanta, GA, Jenna Jones (Jason) of Thomasville, GA, Erik Miller of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren,  Farrar Bass, Dray Bass, both of Cairo, GA, Wimberly Jones, Sam Jones, both of Thomasville, GA; brother, Larry McCorkle (Sandy) of Cairo, GA; sisters-in-law, Pauline McCorkle, Glenda McCorkle of Cairo, GA, Joanne Brinkley (Larry) of Cairo, GA, Peggy McCorkle of St. Johns, AZ, Dot Eames of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and brothers, Claude McCorkle, Roland McCorkle, Charles McCorkle, Patrick McCorkle, Jack McCorkle, Hal McCorkle.
