Ijon Nathaniel Cain

Graveside funeral services for Ijon N. Cain, 94, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Mr. Cain passed away at Magnolia Place of Cairo, GA, on Sunday morning, April 2, 2017.

Mr. Cain was born on January 8, 1923, in Cairo, GA, to the late Zolie Cofer Cain and Bertie Owens Cain. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. On September 23, 1945, he married Merle Laverne Holton Cain, who preceded him in death on December 7, 1993. He was the paint and body shop manager for 36 years for Bell Chevrolet in Cairo. He retired in 1985. Ijon and his wife traveled the country in their campers with their great friends, Bill and Barbara Miller. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cairo.

Survivors include: daughter, Mary Cain Fields (James) of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Dennis R. Cain (Becky) of Thomasville, GA, James L. Cain (Jana) of Cairo, GA, Mark Allen Cain of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Catherine DeZemplen (Rick) of Collierville, TN, Martha Bruce of Thomasville, GA, Joey Johnson of Tallahassee, FL, Michael Shimp (Tracie) of Tallahassee, FL, Tonya Edison of Cairo, GA, Mona Arnold of Tallahassee, FL, Christina Fields of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren, Matt Dezemplen, Trent Dezemplen, Kayla Bruce, Nolan Johnson, Amy Payne; and a numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; and sisters, Virginia Webb, Hazel Walsingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Cain’s memory to: Magnolia Place, 1710 S. Broad Street, Cairo, GA; or Kindred Hospice (formerly Gentiva), 432 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, April 3, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
