Helen Elkins Knight

Funeral services for Helen Elkins Knight, 83, of Whigham, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Union Springs Baptist Church, Whigham, GA. Pastor James Knight will officiate. Interment will be in Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA. Mrs. Knight passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Childree, Jessie Gaines, Stanley Elkins, Mitch Stone, Eric Elkins and Jennings Childree.

Mrs. Knight was born in Grady County on November 10, 1934, to the late Lonnie L. Elkins and Eva Mae Finney Elkins. Her loving husband of sixty-three years, Melvin J. Knight, Jr. preceded her in death on March 30, 2017. She is survived by: her son, Julian B. Knight (June) of Whigham, GA; two daughters, Cynthia K. Vickers (Shaw) of Whigham, GA, Beverly C. Knight (Linda McCrae) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Carla Pearce (Richard) of Cairo, GA, Jay Knight (Kerri) of Thomasville, GA, Kelly Parramore (Maurice) of Ochlocknee, GA, Casey Vickers of Whigham, GA, Isaac McCrae of Indianapolis, IN, April Hester (Johnnie) of Cairo, GA; great-grandchildren; Erin, Sara and Ryan Pearce of Cairo, GA, Caroline, Samantha and Piper Knight of Thomasville, GA, Miller and Marley Parramore of Ochlocknee, GA, Tanner Starr of Cairo, GA; a sister, Betty Rawls (Julian) of Cairo, GA; and a sister-in-law, Charlene Elkins of Cairo, GA.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; brothers, Hubert Elkins, James Elkins; and a sister, Margaret Tyus.

Mrs. Knight was a graduate of Cairo High School. She spent thirty years working as a bank teller with First Federal Savings and Loan in Cairo, and six years working with the Grady County Registrar’s Office. She was an active member of Union Springs Baptist Church serving currently as Treasurer. In addition, she worked lovingly beside her husband with the Grady County Farm Bureau for thirty years. They were selected as the Grady County Farm Family of the Year in 1980. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her favorite hobby was spending hours in her rose garden and beautiful yard.

The family will receive friends at Union Springs Baptist Church immediately following the funeral and interment in the church Fellowship Hall.
