Carolyn Coats Brown
April 8, 1929 – October 16, 2018

Carolyn Coats Brown born April 8, 1929, to Lumis and Helen Coats. She was a sixth generation Grady countian. She died peacefully at Grady General Hospital on October 16, 2018.

She was married to Shirley Reynolds Brown for sixty-six years. They had two sons, Lumis Coats Brown (Helen) of Cairo and Reynolds Joseph Brown of Atlanta. Her three grandsons are Lauren Coats Brown (Brooke) of Atlanta, Perry Noble Brown of Atlanta, and Julian Lumis Brown of Cairo.

She retired in August 2001 from Cairo High School after being the bookkeeper for 28 years. Organizing trips for the Beta Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Band, and various athletic teams was her passion. Her favorite memories were from taking students on their senior cruise from 1984 to 2012. Due to her love of the students, the Cairo High School Raconteur was dedicated to her twice. As a graduate of CHS, she enjoyed planning and attending the reunions for the class of 1946.

Throughout her life she thought being a part of the community was important. She was a past-president of Cairo Women’s Club and Gardenia Garden Club. She was a member of Syrup City Players, Regional Community Center, Grady General Hospital Support League, Grady County Historical Society, and the Friends of the Roddenbery Memorial Library. Carolyn thought that it was important to continue to participate in the community. For 44 years she was an election poll manager in Grady County. She also enjoyed TV commentating the Cairo Christmas Parade for CNS. Recently, being a part of the Magnolia Ladies Club was a joy for her. She was a member of the Aldersgate-Fellowship Sunday School Class at Cairo First United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Cairo, GA, on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. A visitation in the sanctuary will follow the service.
