Thomas Maxwell “Mack” Gainey, Sr.

Thomas Maxwell “Mack” Gainey, Sr., 88, of Cairo, GA, passed away at his home in Cairo, GA, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.

Mr. Gainey was born on February 8, 1930, in Cairo, GA, to the late Thomas H. Gainey and Brinnie Maxwell Gainey. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Underwater Demolition Specialist. On February 8, 1952, he married Elizabeth Dixon Gainey, who survives. He was a timber cruiser, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mack and his wife of 66 years, owned Gainey’s Talquin Lodge for 23 years, returning back to Cairo in retirement.

Survivors include: his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Dixon Gainey; daughter, Teresa VanLandingham (Richard); daughter-in-law, Lynn Gainey; grandchildren, Chris VanLandingham (Elena), Mary Beth Sharp (Kevin), Cole Gainey (Heather), Aubrey Gainey, Trace Gainey, Jason Lewis (Brandi); 5 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, Thomas Maxwell Gainey, Jr., Tracy Gainey; and 7 brothers and sisters.
