Mona Banks Oates

Funeral services for Mona Banks Oates, 95, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Gordon Heights Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Kirk Beckham, and Rev. Al Sessions will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Oates passed away at Glenn-Mor Nursing Home in Thomasville, GA, GA, on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.

Active pallbearers will be member of the American Legion Post 122.

Mrs. Oates was born on April 8, 1920, in Spence, GA, to the late Oscar Hill Banks and Annie Elizabeth Fain Banks. On December 26, 1937, she married Uley JL Oates, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1994. She was a seamstress with Warner’s Clothing until her retirement. From there she spent her day working in Oates’ Hobby Nursery out on Highway 84 East. She was a member of Gordon Heights Baptist Church in Cairo.

Survivors include: son, James Oates (Carole) of Cairo, GA; daughter, Phyllis Armstrong (Ken) of Thomasville, GA; grandchildren, Dr. William “Billy” S. Oates (Gabbi) of Tallahassee, FL, Robin Oates of Gainesville, GA, Michael Hall (Sharon) of Athens, GA, Dr. Amanda Hall of Valdosta, GA, Adam Armstrong (Patti) of Deland, FL, Djuana Rinheart of Thomasville, GA, Klay Armstrong of Donalsonville, GA, Traci Evans (Terry) of Tallahassee, FL, Jony Pickren (Katie) of Genese, IL; great-grandchildren, Paxton Oates, Emery Oates, both of Tallahassee, FL, Christopher Armstrong of Deland, FL, Rachael Boudereaux, Caroline Smith, Addie Rinehart, Elizabeth Rinehart, all of Thomasville, GA, Hank Evans, Beau Evans, both of Tallahassee, FL; great-great-grandchildren, Stella Hamby, Maggie Hamby, both of Thomasville, GA,; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; a sister, Arrie Golden; and brothers, Vance Banks, Woodrow Banks.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the Fellowship Hall of Gordon Heights Baptist Church.
