Mary Van Maxwell Johnson
July 10, 1921 – May 22, 2020

Private graveside funeral services for Mary Van Maxwell Johnson, 98, of Calvary, GA, will be held in Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, GA. Rev. Rob Cronin will officiate. Mrs. Johnson passed away at Bainbridge Health and Rehab in Bainbridge, GA, on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Mrs. Johnson was born on July 10, 1921, in Whigham, GA, to the late Jesse Newton Maxwell and Cordie Mae Roberts Maxwell. On July 27, 1942, she married George Stencil Johnson, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2007. She was a bookkeeper and sales representative with Singer, Inc. until her retirement. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Mary loved to share with her family and friends. She was a loving mother and Granny who will be remembered for her big family meals and most especially for her mile-high strawberry cakes.

Survivors include: her children, Kay Harder of Calvary, GA, Newton Johnson (Ginger) of Shell Point, FL; grandchildren, Brett Whigham (Kim) of Indianapolis, IN, Lani Fraser (Neal) of Tallahassee, FL, Johnny Johnson (Shauntelle) of Tallahassee, FL, Jeffery Johnson (Traci) of Crawfordville, FL, Jason Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Kim Atkinson of Tallahassee, FL, Kellie Trednick of St. Augustine, FL, Kerrie Brandon (Brad Simpson) of Havana, FL; 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Maxwell of Chattahoochee, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; sisters, Sarah Davis, Lois May; brothers, Wythe Maxwell, Subers Maxwell, Arthur Maxwell, Cecil Maxwell; sons-in-law, Earl Harder, Terry Whigham; grandson-in-law, Ricky Atkinson; granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Louise Maxwell.
