Larry Benson Gainous
August 10, 1929 – May 6, 2021

Funeral services for Larry Benson Gainous, 91, of Cairo, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2021, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Christy Bandy, Bill Bass and Wayne Wilcher will officiate.  Services will conclude in the chapel.  Private interment will be in Springhill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Whigham, GA.  Mr. Gainous passed away at his home on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Active pallbearers will be Chase Wilcher, Wayne Wilcher, Ross Craig, Lee Ruble, Lee Gainous, Barry Gainous and Bill Bass.

Mr. Gainous was born on August 10, 1929, in Whigham, GA, to the late Johnson Gainous and Beulah Mae Faircloth.  He served his country in the United States Army.  On July 5, 1949, he married Dorothy Newberry Gainous, who survives.  He graduated from the University of Georgia and worked as a professional forrester with Rayonier, Inc. until his retirement.  Later in his working career, he and his brother, Jimmy Gainous, started a new business in Cairo known as Gainous Shade Trees, Inc.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cairo.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Newberry Gainous of Cairo, GA; daughters, Susan Gainous of Cairo, GA, Patti Wilcher (Wayne) of Scottsboro AL; grandchildren, Kadee Ruble (Lee) of Oak Ridge, TN, Paige Craig (Ross) of Huntsville, AL, Chase B. Wilcher (Kimberly) of College Grove, TN; great-grandchildren, Linley Craig, Mason Craig, Taylor Craig, Zoie Ruble, Ashton Ruble, Jaxon Wilcher; sisters, Jean Helmer of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Merle Bennett of Tampa, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; granddaughter, Leslie Lynne Wilcher; and brothers, Dewitt Gainous, Jimmy Gainous.
